Professor Hou Pao-chang |
Professor Hou Pao-chang held the Chair of Pathology between 1948 to 1960. He was previously a professor at universities in mainland China and very well-respected both within China and overseas.
During his headship, a new pathology building was erected at the Queen Mary Hospital in 1958, integrating teaching, research and clinical services. Professor Hou's main research area was hepatobiliary disease. He made a seminal discovery linking the infection of liver fluke (Clonorchis sinensis) with the development of bile duct carcinoma.

On March 12, 2007, the 40th anniversary of Professor Hou's passing, the "HKU - HOU PAO CHANG MEDICAL MEMORIAL FUND - 香港大學侯寶璋醫學紀念基金" was established . The Fund was jointly established by Professor Hou's family members, friends, colleagues, students, and the Department of Pathology, HKU, commemorating his life, achievements and contributions to the medical profession.
Donations to the "HKU - HOU PAO CHANG MEDICAL MEMORIAL FUND - 香港大學侯寶璋醫學紀念基金" can be made by completing and returning the attached donation form to the Department of Pathology, The University of Hong Kong.
